El Paso Sleep Apnea Dentistry
What is Sleep Apnea Treatment?
Sleep apnea is a serious condition that affects millions of people worldwide. There are many factors that can contribute to the condition, but it generally involves the soft tissues at the back of the throat collapsing over the airway. This causes a patient with sleep apnea to have short disruptions in their breathing at night. In order to correct the problem, we recommend wearing a sleep apnea oral device.
Why might you benefit from Sleep Apnea Treatment?
The reason you need treatment for your sleep apnea is because it can be downright difficult to get through life with the condition. Because you’re waking up all night long, you likely won’t have the energy to work, spend time with your family or do things that you enjoy. In fact, there have been links to other health conditions as a result of having sleep apnea. For this reason, we recommend quick and proper treatment as soon as possible.
Who would benefit from Sleep Apnea Treatment
We first review all health and medical history before recommending treatment. Treatment using an oral device is recommended for patients who have mild symptoms. If you have more severe apnea symptoms, we’ll recommend speaking with your doctor about other treatment options. If you have sleep apnea, it’s advised that you come in for a consultation regarding treatment options.
What happens during Sleep Apnea Treatment?
We first start with a consultation and complete exam. If it’s found that you’d benefit from treatment, we take impressions of your mouth. These impressions are sent to a local dental lab where they are used to make a custom appliance for you to wear. This appliance is worn nightly to keep the airway open while you sleep. If the appliance shows signs of wear, it can be replaced easily by coming into our office. Most sleep apnea appliances last for many years before replacement is necessary.
